Seems simple, right? Well, lots of us have a complex relationship with food and our bodies. If that’s true for you, pay special attention this part of your preparation. No matter your past relationship with food, take this opportunity, just for the weekend, to create your ‘ideal’ food situation. No judgement, full permission. Simple nourishment is the goal here.
Think about having things on hand that will be easy to make, even prepared ahead of time if you can. Yummy soups are a great retreat food because they feel cozy and contain all you need for a full meal.
Plan for an ample supply of water. If you like it crisp and cold, fill up the ice trays and have some stocked in the ice bin. If you’re a room temp kinda gal, fill your favorite vessel and throw in some nice cucumber and orange slices.
Stock the cupboards and fridge with those things you KNOW support your body and make you feel light and deeply fed. Sure, a pint of dark chocolate fudge Ben and Jerry’s may make the cut, but don’t rely on that to get you through the whole weekend. If dairy makes you feel gross, go for your favorite non-dairy version.
Throw in some special touches - those things you save for ‘special’ occasions. Fresh baked bread, real butter, a pastry from your favorite bakery. Ok, so my list may be baked-good biased, but whatever your style of treat, make sure a couple of those make the cut.
Why?? Because this is one place that concretely represents the truest YOU. You feel the way you feel when you get that special treat for a reason. Even this holds a clue for all that will unfold this weekend.
Other things to consider - wholesome things, whole grains, veggies, protein, ‘good’ fats, etc.
I highly recommend you skip the alcohol. It numbs the senses and we’re going to be calling on those a lot this weekend. If you like a refreshing glass of something bubbly, think more along the lines of fancy soda water, lemon juice and fresh mint. Keep the parts of that experience you really treasure, without the altering effects.
Same goes for other substances. You’ll want your full presence this weekend. It will be worth it.
