[Habit Hacks!]

My Magic Makers

January 25, 2019

Welcome!

Where are my ADHD peeps?!?! Are you someone who has struggled with consistency, positive habits and discipline? Yep. Me too.

It has been the source of my greatest shame, AND greatest triumph!!

Whether you're someone who DOES struggle, OR someone who's really good at this stuff (maybe too good), and you want to bring more ease to this part of your life, here are some practical tips and tools.

(DISCLAIMER: This video is a bit longer than some of my others, but ALL of these elements work together, so please stick around to the end.)

Below are practical things you can do right away to change your relationship with habits, consistency and discipline.

Whether you, like me, identify as having shades of ADD/ADHD, or if you just have a hard time consistently doing the things you WANT to be doing to create change, these tools can help. We arguably live in an age where we collectively have ADHD!

If you're just joining us, or want to catch up, here's my most recent Broadcast which inspired this one!

(See below for links and notes for each of the tools I share in the video.)

TOOLS:

1. Meditation Practice

The teacher I've been following is Susan Piver. She offers a free weekly instruction with an option to join her paid community. She is so generous with her offerings and I always hear something new at just the right time. Her no-nonsense approach, plus the lineage she is part of, both REALLY work for me. This practice specifically addresses focus and attention. I'm not sure that's what they set out to do hundreds (thousands?) of years ago, but it is so powerfully relevant today in the age of distraction and over-stimulation.

2. 4-Day Win by Martha Beck

Use this technique when you want to bust though a barrier for building a habit. All I can say is that this one is MAGIC! Trust the process, keep it small, and you ONLY get the reward when you do the 'thing' you said you wanted to do. I found this worksheet to help you map it out. This one, more than almost anything else I've EVER tried, has made it possible for me to create and maintain helpful habits. It has also helped me regain facets of my self-respect and self-reliance I never imagined possible. Magic.

3. The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins

This SUPER simple tool will help you break the inertia of "I don't feel like it". Of course you don't! It's new, it's hard, it's scary. But you DO know it's the thing you need to do to get where you want. Mel lays it all out here. This deceptively easy trick will help you do the hardest part; begin. Here are two other pieces on The Rule. -- Door #1 -- Door #2

****************************

Throughout the video, you'll hear me refer to the phrase, "Begin Again". This simple but powerful refrain has quite literally saved my life and made all of this possible.

No matter how many times you've failed, if you have a hunch you're on the right path, simply 'Begin Again'. This is the key that makes all other efforts possible.

Hang in there friends!! I'm here if you want to talk.

Tell me how you've used these things, and if you DO end up trying one (or all of them), and you want to share on social media, please tag me or use the hashtag #untamingthewild. (Follow me on FB or IG.)

I love you all so very much and I'm so grateful to be on this journey with you.
