[A New Kind of Adult]
I became a new kind of adult today. I am now the proud owner of a nice, juicy IRA - an Individual Retirement Account. Yes, it does sound fancy. How did this happen?!?! Well, I'm gonna tell you.

I knew I was going to make more money this year than ever before (check!), and I was committed to putting enough money aside to cover what I would owe at the end of the year (check!). That alone was a HUGE (miraculous) accomplishment for me! Massive!

THEN, I submitted my taxes EARLY, and yesterday found out I owe much less than I'd saved for!! Bonus!! Because my accountant is a genius rockstar, she suggested I use part of that money to not only set up my first IRA, but to also save myself $1300 in taxes! I get to KEEP that money and put it to work for me. Win, win, win!!

I hear from people every day who believe they can't have the security they want while also living the life of their dreams. They think it's too good to be true, it's selfish, it's irresponsible. I felt that way too. But I have a TON of irrefutable evidence proving none of that is true. (Mine AND that of my clients.) If I can do this, ANYONE can. What I've done (and still do, every single day) is wade through the super shitty parts. I walk in the fear. I move with the discomfort that comes from starting something new, leaving something known, and stepping into the wide open "what if". I keep showing up, imperfection in tow. It's not easy, but it is simple.

I have NOT done this alone. I am a strong, feisty, smart and capable woman. Why couldn’t I just dig my heals in, make it happen, try harder?? Because at a certain point, I couldn’t see outside my own story. You see, that’s all it is. Your “I can’t” is just a story. One version, of one story, you’ve told yourself (and been told by others) for SO long, you can’t see anything else. When you can’t see anything else, you can’t believe anything else. If you don't believe it, you can’t be motivated or focused. You beat yourself up for procrastination, distraction, and stagnation. But none of this makes you weak, or stupid, or not enough. What it makes you is human. And if you’re a human, who is hungry for a life that feels like you, and the security that comes from things like retirement funds, you cannot create that new reality all by yourself.

Stop and ask yourself, where are you saying, "I can't"?? I promise you have more freedom, more power, more possibility than you're allowing yourself right now. I'll never tell you it will be easy. It won’t be. It will be the hardest (best) thing you’ve ever done. It’s why most of us never do it.

So, what’s it gonna be?? Either/Or, or Both/And?? You absolutely can have both. You can have freedom AND security. What you CAN’T have is comfort and creation, you don’t get something new without getting cozy with the discomfort. That’s where I come in. I wade into the dark places with you, and help you find your way to the other side. I’ve been in nearly every dark place one can imagine. And I’ve made it out the other side, every single time. I’m a navigator, a guide, an ass-kicker, and a hand-holder. You are greater than you know. Let’s find your “other side”, together.
